HCS Announces Support of New Billing Requirements for Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities

On November 15, 2004, CMS announced the final rule for establishing a prospective payment system (PPS) for Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities (IPF) under Medicare. The IPF PPS will replace the current reasonable cost-based reimbursement to a federal per-diem base rate using Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) assessments, among others.

With advanced tools for revenue cycle functions including contract management, billing and accounts receivable, users can calculate appropriate per-diem DRG rates, bill-based on the specifications, and derive anticipated reimbursement amounts.

"HCS has been supporting PPS billing since its inception in the 1980s," states Thomas Fahey Vice President of Sales for HCS. "HCS INTERACTANT currently supports DRG billing for acute care facilities, long-term care hospitals, and now psychiatric services."
